COASTAL ports in eastern China's Shandong province posted an 8.87 per cent year-on-year increase in overall container volume to 7.57 million TEU in the first four months of the year, reports Xinhua.
According to Shandong Provincial Maritime Bureau, the aggregate cargo volume of the ports in the period increased 8.6 per cent year on year to 425 million tonnes.
Foreign trade cargo volume grew 5.66 per cent to 237 million tonnes. While cargo volume from its three largest ports, Qingdao, Rizhao and Yantai, amounted 393 million tonnes, accounting for 92.47 per cent of Shangdong's throughput total.
Qingdao Port Group handled 164 million tonnes, up 5.03 per cent. Rizhao Port Group's throughput increased 8.39 per cent to 116 million tonnes. Yantai's grew 7.43 per cent to 80 million tonnes.
While cargo volume in the ports of its Weifang city increased 6.95 per cent to 6.72 million tonnes from January to April.
